I was given a free container of Zinc Oxide from Raise Them Well to try. Thank you for your consideration and support!

For the last couple of summers I've wanted to make my own sunscreen but never got around to it. So why didn't I just make it? I'm not sure really. Probably a mixture of my own laziness, still having sunscreen already on hand and not enough education as to what the best way and products to use are to make my own. I was so excited when Emily from Raise Them Well approached me and asked if I would like to try out their Kid-Safe Zinc Oxide Powder and give an honest review. I knew this was my time to make the sunscreen and put it to the test.

At first I honestly had no idea what I was supposed to do with zinc oxide powder. I was so thankful when Emily informed me that anyone who orders it also receives a FREE eBook full of recipes on how to use it. You guys, this book is so great! There are recipes for multiple types of sunscreens, lip balm, acne cream, diaper cream and more! I can't wait to try out more of the recipes. Most recipes only call for a scoop or two of the powder, so it will last a very long time. This article about the importance of using zinc oxide powder was very helpful too.

(I did not have beeswax granules, but after grating this chunk of beeswax by hand that was leftover from another project I was wishing for the granules. Do yourself a favor and get the granules!)

I chose to make the Quick and Easy Sun Barrier. True to it's name it was very quick and easy to make. All you need are three simple ingredients: Raise Them Well Kid-Safe Zinc Oxide Powder, coconut oil and beeswax (granules are best). Seriously that's it! If you use traditional sunscreen go read the back of the bottle. There are WAY more than three ingredients and how many of them can you pronounce. Scary isn't it? I felt instantly better about lathering my kids up with this sunscreen than those we had previously been using.

Here's the recipe to make your own sunscreen:

The sunscreen took me less than 10 minutes to make and I decided to store it in this cute little Ball jar. It filled one and a half of  these little jars. You can use any kind of container, just make sure it has a lid. It is a solid, so don't use a container that is intended for liquid sunscreen.

The next day we were headed out to a friend's pool so I knew this would be the perfect test. I put it on about half hour before we left because with it being coconut oil based I wanted to give it enough time to soak into their skin.

Upon arrival, the kids jumped in the pool and didn't come out for another two hours. I was little nervous because in the instructions it said to reapply every half hour for maximum coverage, but my kids are like fish and nothing matters to them other than swimming when they're the pool. I'm so happy to report that no one burned! This stuff really works! Now I will say my kids already had a base tan, so if they didn't I would be sure to reapply every half hour, so if you or your kids burn very easily make sure you keep up on the reapplication of it.

Now that I've seen just how easy homemade sunscreen is to make and how well it actually does work I will NEVER go back to using the chemical filled sunscreen we had been using.  If you've ever wanted to try it, do it! You won't regret it. This is a new staple product in our home and feel confident using it on my family.

Now here's the best part! Raise Them Well wants to make it as easy as possible for their Zinc Oxide Powder to get into your hands so you can protect your family naturally. They are offering a $10 off coupon for my readers from now through September 10, 2015. This is a fantastic deal! With the coupon it makes it only $7.99!!! Just use offer code DARCIEZO when you checkout. You will also receive by email (the account that is linked to your Amazon account) the FREE eBook full of recipes using zinc oxide powder.
